Bill Brandt

 Bill Brandt was a German born photographer who decided to take up photography when he was battling tuberculosis in a hospital in Switzerland. He was born inMay 2, 1904 in Hamburg. Although he began as a painter, he developed an interest in photography during the time he spent in that hospital in Switzerland. He traveled through Europe and learned photography from other famous photographers such as Man Ray in Paris, France. He moved to London England but traveled throughout his life taking pictures of the people. Brandt specialized in night and portrait photography along with close up of different body parts. He would also photograph people in their natural environment along with famous people during that time.

Our group chose Bill Brandt as our photographer because his photos are amazing. He inspired us to work with light and shadow and how it affects the photo. We attempted to mimic his style by adding the black and white affect. We also attempted to mimic the way he did the close up photos of the eyes and hands but also portrait pictures of the subject directing her eyes in a different directions. We took pictures of ourselves but also our schools homecoming queen who is well known throughout our school by many of the students and staff.
